Scout groups always qualify for our non-profit group rate of $6 per person, no matter how many people are in your troop/pack. Or, you may choose to participate in our Pick a Patch Program. Through the Pick-a-Patch program, your troop can:

  • Earn a badge from those listed below.
  • Choose specific activities from other badges.
  • Have a sleepover in the musuem.

A CITY MUSEUM staff member will be assigned to your troop for two hours, helping you find the places in CITY MUSEUM where you can achieve your goals. After youÆve finished your projects, enjoy CITY MUSEUM and MonstroCity! Explore the sky tunnels, ride the slides, challenge yourself to a pinball game, slither up a slinky, experience the magic of the Enchanted Forest, dare to enter the Tidal Cave, join a circus show, and express your creativity in Art City. Use our new walking guide to help you through our Scavenger Hunt.

City Museum demonstrates how old things can be used in a new, interesting way. As you explore City Museum, find some examples of how City Museum works with materials that were originally intended to do something completely different. Look for vault doors, glass bottles, serving pans, and more! Use this to talk to your family or den about how roles have changed over your lifetime, and through your family’s generations.

Look at the architectural details of City Museum, and notice how they now form something new. Do you find similar architectural details in buildings today? Where?

In Art City, make a Family Scrapbook that shows how your family has changed over generations. What was your family like ten or twenty years ago compared to today? Don’t forget to leave extra pages at the end! Take the scrapbook home, and update it as time passes.

Meets requirements 1F, 1D, and 1G; may also include Electives 5 and 17

Wolf & Bear Cubs

As you explore City Museum, take note of how you feel. Practice keeping a happy attitude. And, although it’s easy to enjoy a place like City Museum, try to remember to have a positive outlook in all situations. Talk to your family and den about ways to keep a positive outlook in difficult situations. (Meets requirement 6A)

Taking care of nature is an important aspect of being a scout. And, to keep the environment clean, it’s important to recycle as much as possible. As you explore City Museum, notice that much of the building’s material is recycled. Most things here would have been thrown away if they were not salvaged by City Museum. But, since they were recycled, they have been used to create an amazing museum. Can you imagine other ways of reusing things that would be otherwise thrown away?

Go to Art City and explore the recycling possibilities. Take advantage of the recycled items at Art City.  Paint, draw, or sculpt something out of clay. Make a gift for a friend. When you get home, remember that there are many ways to recycle. Melt old crayons into new colors, make new paper out of old paper, use scraps of construction paper to make a mosaic, or use your imagination to do something new! As you’re completing the requirements for “Be an Artist” (Wolves) and “Art” (Bears) in Art City, think of how, by recycling, you are caring for nature at the same time.

Part of being a good scout is the ability to behave correctly according to the situation. If you have ever visited a museum before, try to compare those other museums to City Museum. Although there is art everywhere in City Museum, nobody will ask you to be quiet, and you are allowed to climb, swing, and crawl through our biggest sculpture, MonstroCity. Does City Museum make you view art differently? If so, why?

Visit Art City to make a scrapbook using recycled materials. As you’re completing the Artist Badge requirements, draw inspiration from what you have just seen and experienced at City Museum. Discuss with your den and family why art is important. How does art relate to some of the basic values of being a scout? (Does art reflect important aspects of life? As a scout, why is it important to recognize some of these aspects?)

As you explore City Museum, pay special attention to the various kinds of sculpture, designs, and paintings. Try to view City Museum as one giant piece of art. Does it make you think about art any differently? How is City Museum different from home, school, or any other museum you may have visited? Does it make you experience things in a different way than usual? Notice how many things in the museum are made of recycled materials. Look for pieces of old buildings, reused metal, and modes of transportation, like a fire truck and an airplane. How is recycling better than throwing something away?

While you’re in Art City, complete the requirements for the Art badge and try to keep in mind the abovementioned aspects of City Museum. How does City Museum inspire your own artwork? Design something useful out of recycled material. While you’re creating, try to express how you’re feeling through your artwork. Recreate one of your favorite sculptures in the museum, or create your own version of a part of the museum.
